Professional paver patios for Laurel Hollow homeowners. Ultra-exclusive Gold Coast village, wooded estates, Cold Spring Harbor border
Laurel Hollow is a heavily wooded Gold Coast village nestled between Cold Spring Harbor and Oyster Bay — a community where properties sit on two or more acres of undulating, forested terrain and privacy is paramount. Brothers Paving & Masonry designs paver patios for Laurel Hollow homeowners who want outdoor living spaces that feel like natural extensions of their wooded landscape rather than imposed structures.
Our Laurel Hollow projects emphasize natural materials and organic design — tumbled pavers, irregular bluestone, and travertine in earth tones that blend with the surrounding woodland. We create multi-zone patios that flow through the property, from entertaining terraces near the house to fire pit clearings under the tree canopy, connected by meandering paver walkways.
Every Laurel Hollow installation addresses the village's distinct challenges: steep wooded hillsides, extensive root systems from mature hardwoods, clay-heavy soils in ravines and valley floors, and the limited equipment access that comes with narrow wooded driveways and dense vegetation.
Laurel Hollow's terrain is among the most rugged on the Gold Coast — deep wooded ravines, steep hillsides, and dramatic grade changes that can exceed fifteen feet across a single property. The village's proximity to Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory and its association with the scientific community give it a intellectual, nature-oriented character that influences design preferences — homeowners here tend to favor organic, landscape-integrated designs over formal geometric layouts.
The soils in Laurel Hollow reflect the moraine geology: sandy loam on ridgetops gives way to dense clay in the ravines and stream valleys that thread through the village. These clay zones hold water aggressively and are the primary source of frost heave problems when hardscape bases aren't properly engineered. We install extended-depth bases (10-12 inches) with clean-stone drainage layers in any zone where clay is present.
The village's dense tree canopy — mature oaks, beeches, tulip poplars, and evergreens — is its most striking feature and its most significant construction constraint. Every patio project must be planned around root zones, and in some cases, the patio footprint is determined primarily by where the trees allow it. We work with this constraint rather than against it, creating patios with organic shapes that fit naturally into woodland clearings.
Laurel Hollow's proximity to Cold Spring Harbor village provides access to one of Long Island's most charming downtowns, and many homeowners want their outdoor living spaces to have the same refined, natural character — handcrafted quality with an understated aesthetic.

Learn MoreLaurel Hollow's steep, wooded terrain requires comprehensive water management. Runoff from uphill areas and ravine walls must be intercepted before reaching the patio — we install curtain drains and French drain systems upslope and route water around the hardscape to natural discharge points. Terraced construction is standard on sloped sites, with each level independently graded and drained. The village's clay soils in low areas demand robust bases with drainage layers. Root protection is essential — we map root zones for all significant trees within influence distance of the patio, use hand excavation within critical zones, and install root barriers along all patio edges that approach major trees.
