Professional stoops & porches for Roslyn homeowners. Historic village, masonry-heavy properties
Roslyn's historic village center and surrounding residential neighborhoods create a community where front entry masonry ranges from period construction on landmark buildings to modern stoop construction on contemporary homes. Brothers Paving & Masonry builds and rebuilds masonry stoops, porches, steps, and entry features throughout Roslyn that respect the community's architectural heritage while delivering structural performance built for Long Island's climate. From the historic homes along Main Street and Old Northern Boulevard to the residential streets of Roslyn Heights and Roslyn Estates, we deliver front entry craftsmanship at every scale.
Our Roslyn projects include brick stoop rebuilds on mid-century colonials, bluestone entries on renovated homes, and period-appropriate construction on the village's historic structures. We work with brick, bluestone, brownstone, fieldstone, and granite, selecting materials that complement each home's existing architecture. Every stoop is built on reinforced footings below the frost line.
Roslyn's hilly terrain — the village sits in a valley where Roslyn Creek meets Hempstead Harbor — creates front entries with significant grade changes on many properties. Brothers Paving designs multi-level approaches that manage these grades safely and attractively.
Roslyn is one of Long Island's oldest communities, with a historic village center that includes structures dating to the 1600s. The broader Roslyn area encompasses several distinct neighborhoods — Roslyn Village, Roslyn Heights, and Roslyn Estates — each with its own architectural character. The village center features historic homes where stoop construction must respect the building's heritage, while the surrounding neighborhoods have mid-century and contemporary homes where modern masonry construction is appropriate.
The terrain around Roslyn is notably hilly. The village sits in the valley of Roslyn Creek, and residential streets climb steeply to the surrounding ridges. This means many homes have front entries with significant elevation changes — four, six, even eight steps from the sidewalk to the front door. These multi-step entries require properly engineered footings, adequate retaining elements, and drainage systems that manage hillside runoff.
Roslyn's strong school district (Roslyn Public Schools) and convenient location drive high property values and active renovation markets. Front entry improvements are among the most visible and impactful curb appeal upgrades in this community.
Roslyn falls under the Town of North Hempstead for building permits, though properties within the Village of Roslyn may have additional review requirements. Brothers Paving handles all permitting for Roslyn projects.

Learn MoreRoslyn's valley-and-ridge topography is the primary site consideration for stoop projects. Properties on the hillsides above the village center may have four to eight feet of grade change at the front entry, requiring multi-step approaches with intermediate landings, retaining walls, and drainage engineering. The Roslyn Creek valley floor has a higher water table than the ridgetops, and properties near the creek may need additional waterproofing on stoop foundations. The soils vary from sandy outwash on the ridges to siltier deposits in the valley. All footings poured to 36-inch depth with rebar reinforcement.
