Professional walkways & entryways for Centre Island homeowners. Gated waterfront island, highest property values, coastal estates
Centre Island is Long Island's most exclusive residential enclave — a private, gated peninsula in Oyster Bay Harbor where fewer than 100 homes occupy one of the most spectacular waterfront settings on the East Coast. The walkways at these properties must withstand the harshest coastal exposure on the North Shore while presenting the refined elegance that Centre Island's estate owners expect. Brothers Paving & Masonry brings specialized expertise in coastal walkway construction to every Centre Island project.
Our Centre Island walkway installations feature salt-resistant natural stone — thermal bluestone, natural granite, and dense quartzite — as well as high-density interlocking pavers from Cambridge and Techo-Bloc that are rated for direct salt exposure. We build formal entry approaches, garden paths through wind-sculpted landscapes, waterfront access paths, and heated walkway sections designed to withstand the intense freeze-thaw cycling driven by Centre Island's surrounded-by-water microclimate.
Every Centre Island walkway is engineered for extreme coastal conditions: constant salt spray, high water tables, wind-driven rain, and soils that range from sandy beach deposits to heavy clay. We install deep drainage systems, select only salt-proof materials, and build bases that resist the capillary moisture and frost heave that destroy lesser installations within a few seasons.
Centre Island's geography is unique on Long Island — a narrow peninsula connected to the mainland by a single causeway, surrounded by Oyster Bay Harbor, Cold Spring Harbor, and Long Island Sound. This surrounded-by-water position creates the most extreme coastal microclimate of any residential community in Nassau County. Every surface is exposed to salt spray, humidity, and temperature fluctuations that accelerate material deterioration.
The island's estates are among the most private and valuable in the region, with properties that command premium prices for their waterfront positioning and exclusivity. The gated causeway limits access, which means every visitor who arrives has already passed through a level of security — the walkway from the motor court to the front door serves as the final element of the arrival sequence, and it must convey the same authority as the gate and driveway that preceded it.
Centre Island's terrain is generally low-lying, with gentle elevations rising from the shoreline to modest ridges at the island's center. The water table is high throughout, often sitting within three to four feet of the surface, which creates significant challenges for walkway base construction. Without proper drainage layers, capillary moisture wicks up through the base material and causes frost heave damage during winter cycles.
The island's homeowner association and village regulations govern exterior modifications, and the small, tight-knit community has high expectations for the quality and appearance of all construction. We deliver walkways that satisfy these standards while being engineered for the most demanding coastal environment in Nassau County.

Learn MoreCentre Island's surrounded-by-water position creates the most aggressive salt exposure of any location we serve. Salt spray reaches every property on the island during nor'easters and strong westerly winds, depositing corrosive residue on walkway surfaces, in joints, and — most critically — on the base materials beneath the walking surface. We use only salt-rated materials, stainless steel hardware for step sections, and thick drainage blankets of clean angular stone beneath every walkway base to prevent salt-laden moisture from reaching the frost zone. The high water table requires us to install full-depth drainage systems on virtually every project, with perforated pipe and catch basins directing water to daylight outlets rather than allowing it to saturate the base. Equipment access is limited to the single causeway and narrow island roads, requiring careful scheduling of material deliveries.
