Professional walkways & entryways for Garden City homeowners. Premier village, high property values
Garden City is one of Nassau County's most architecturally cohesive communities — a planned village where tree-lined streets, Tudor and Colonial homes, and manicured front yards create a streetscape that rewards thoughtful walkway design. Brothers Paving & Masonry installs walkways and entryway systems that complement Garden City's established character, using premium materials and installation techniques that enhance curb appeal while respecting the village's distinctive aesthetic.
Our Garden City walkway projects focus on the front entry transformation that this community values: replacing aging concrete paths with wider, more elegant paver or bluestone walkways that create a proper sense of arrival. We work with Cambridge, Belgard, and Nicolock interlocking pavers in patterns and colors that complement Garden City's brick, stone, and stucco facades; natural bluestone for homeowners seeking a classic, timeless look; and decorative concrete finishes for budget-conscious upgrades that still deliver significant curb appeal improvement.
Every Garden City walkway is built on a foundation of proper engineering: adequate excavation, compacted aggregate base, and surface pitch for positive drainage away from the foundation. We hand-set every paver or stone, execute precision cuts at curves and borders, and finish with polymeric sand or mortar joints that lock the surface tight. The result is a walkway that stays flat, drains correctly, and looks as good in year ten as it does on day one.
Garden City's planned village layout creates a unique walkway context. The community was designed in the late 1800s with consistent lot sizes, setback distances, and streetscape proportions. Front walkways are visible from the street and contribute directly to the neighborhood's overall aesthetic. A cracked concrete path does not just diminish one home — it affects the visual continuity of the entire block. This visibility makes walkway quality a community standard, not just a personal preference.
The village's housing stock is predominantly pre-war — Tudors, Colonials, Cape Cods, and English-style homes built between the 1910s and 1950s. Many of these homes have their original concrete walkways, which after 70 to 100 years are cracked, settled, and too narrow for modern expectations. The standard 24-to-30-inch walkway of the 1930s looks inadequate next to professionally landscaped foundation beds and restored facades. We design replacement walkways at 42 to 48 inches wide that bring the front entry into proportion with the rest of the home.
Garden City's flat terrain and well-draining glacial outwash soils make for straightforward base preparation on most properties. The primary technical consideration is working within the village's building codes and the informal but powerful community expectations for material quality and design consistency. We understand that a walkway in Garden City needs to look right — it needs to complement the architecture, match the scale of the property, and contribute positively to the streetscape.
Property values in Garden City are among the highest in central Nassau County, supported by the village's top-ranked school district, convenient LIRR commute, and enduring architectural appeal. A professionally installed walkway and entryway is one of the highest-visibility, highest-ROI improvements available — every neighbor, visitor, and potential buyer sees it every time they pass the house.

Learn MoreGarden City's flat terrain and well-draining glacial outwash soils simplify walkway construction compared to hillier North Shore communities. Base depth of 6 to 8 inches is typically sufficient, and drainage is managed through standard surface pitch of a quarter-inch per foot away from the foundation. The primary construction consideration in Garden City is matching the streetscape aesthetic — the village's architectural cohesion means walkway materials and patterns are evaluated in context with neighboring properties. We recommend materials that complement the home's period architecture: warm-toned pavers for Tudors, clean-lined bluestone for Colonials, and brick-accent borders for English-style homes. The Village of Garden City building department reviews exterior construction, and we handle permitting as part of our project management.
Real projects we've completed for Garden City homeowners.
Replaced a cracked 1930s concrete walkway with a 48-inch-wide Cambridge Ledgestone paver path in Toffee-Onyx blend with running bond pattern and charcoal soldier-course border. Widened entry landing to 6 by 7 feet with matching paver-capped step risers. 8 solid-brass path lights in Tudor lantern style. Coordinated paver apron at the driveway connection.
Scope: 42 linear ft paver walkway, entry landing, step risers, 8 lights, driveway apron
Installed a 36-foot thermal bluestone walkway with tight mortar joints and hand-tooled edges, connecting the sidewalk to a restored Colonial's front portico. The path widens from 44 inches to 56 inches at the entry landing. Matching bluestone step treads with wrought-iron handrail. Low-voltage LED lighting in period-appropriate fixtures on both sides.
Scope: 36 linear ft bluestone walkway, entry landing, step treads, path lighting
